Research on veganism


China Study

  • According to Greene, Costello & Dare (2010), the researchers in this study collected their data by observing 6,500 adults from 65 counties in China in either rural or semi rural environments. The data collection involved  urine samples, measured their food in-take over three days in detail, as well as analyzing food samples (p. 55).
  • Results from this study show that there is more cancer protection in veganism compared to a western diet.

The NURMI

  • Patrick et al. (2018)  study showed that veganism/ vegetarianism is an appropriate replacement and did not hinder performance of long distance runners. (p. 11)
  • Also shows that they have a high quality of life score

Meta-analysis

  • Dinu, Abbate, Gensini, Casini & Sofi reported the health benefits of veganism which showed that there was a -25% reduction of incidence and or mortality from ischemic heart disease. (p. 3648)

  • China study showed that although participants consumed 30% more calories per kg of body weight compared to Americans, yet they showed 20% lower BMI (Greene, Costello & Dare, 2010, p. 61).
